Clips vs. Zips

  • Clips

Our color-coded hook & loop set up it ultralight and proven draft-free. The low-profile loop disappears on the quilt when using it alone.

All clip quilts and clip sheets are compatible, so you can mix and match your ideal setup.

  • Zippers

You know 'em, you love 'em, and they don't take much explaining. Zippers are familiar, fast, and easy to use. While slightly heavier than clips, they’re the perfect choice for anyone seeking maximum convenience.

Footbox Styles

  • Fast Footbox™

Unlike sewn footboxes that restrict your movement and do not vent, Zenbivy’s patent-pending Fast Footbox™ uses a single clip that allows it to expand for more space or narrow for more warmth.

  • Convertible Footbox

Convertible footboxes open up completely flat, providing maximum versatility both on and off the trail.

Light Quilt Convertible is fully zipperless. Overland ZipBed features a zippered convertible quilt.

  • Fixed Double Footbox

The wide, spacious fixed footbox on our Double Quilts gives you room to move naturally while still sealing in warmth—so you can sprawl out in comfort or quickly kick off the covers if you get too warm.

Choosing a Temperature Rating: Understanding Limit vs. Comfort

The temperature rating shown in Zenbivy product names is the Limit Rating.

  • Limit Rating — The lowest temperature at which a warm sleeper can sleep without feeling cold, typically while curled up.
  • Comfort Rating — The lowest temperature at which a cold sleeper can remain comfortable in a relaxed, natural sleeping position.

For most people, we recommend choosing a temperature rating based on the Comfort Rating and the conditions you expect to encounter.

Zenbivy temperature ratings assume you are using an EN/ISO-matched insulated mattress (R-value 4.5 or higher).

Fabrics

  • Pertex® Quantum (10D)

Many ultralight quilts rely on slick, sticky calendered fabrics that feel like a trash bag. We use premium “full-dull” 10D Pertex® Quantum instead—feather-light, breathable, and soft, with a natural fabric feel.

  • Nylon Taffeta (15D, 20D)

Our Nylon Taffeta is the sweet spot of lightweight comfort and durability—smooth against the skin and strong enough for reliable backcountry performance.

  • Polyester Pongee (25D, 50D)

Our legendary Pongee fabric feels more like bed sheets than outdoor gear, bringing a familiar kind of can't-beat-it comfort to camp.

What Is Denier (D)?

Denier (D) measures the thickness of the fibers used in a fabric.

  • Higher denier fabrics use thicker fibers, which generally makes them more durable but slightly heavier.
  • Lower denier fabrics use finer fibers, making them lighter but a little more delicate.

Which is softer, you ask? While lower denier fabrics are often assumed to be softer, denier measures fiber thickness, not softness. Softness depends on the fiber, weave, and finish, which is why our 50D Pongee feels even softer and more bed-like than our 25D Pongee—though both are exceptionally comfortable.

Understanding denier helps you balance weight, durability, and comfort when choosing the right gear.

The benchmark in synthetic performance, PrimaLoft® insulation is engineered from ultra-fine fibers to mimic the warmth and compressibility of down. Soft, lightweight, and remarkably durable, it delivers reliable warmth and comfort through years of adventure.

  • Synthetic

Built for warmer nights, tighter budgets, and personal preferences, we've used a polyester synthetic blend that's as soft as it gets. So soft in fact that you'll swear it's down!

Fill-Power (FP) Explained

Fill-power (FP) measures the quality of down by the size of its clusters. Larger clusters (i.e. higher fill-powers) trap more air, providing more warmth for less weight.

Fill-power specifically refers to how many cubic inches one ounce of down can loft. For example, 700 fill-power down expands to 700 cubic inches per ounce, meaning less down is needed to achieve the same warmth compared to lower fill-power down.

Down is commonly grouped into three categories:

  • 550–650FP: High-quality—durable down
  • 650–750FP: Performance—excellent warmth-to-weight
  • 750–900FP+: Premium—the lightest, warmest, and most compressible

Higher fill-power down offers the best warmth-to-weight ratio and packability, making it ideal for lightweight backpacking.
