Fill Power Explained

Down quality is measured by fill power, which indicates the size of down clusters and their ability to trap air. The higher the fill power, the less down that is needed to achieve the same temperate rating as a lower fill power bag. The less down, the lighter the product!

Typically, fill power ranges from 550 to 900. The grades of down are categorised as high quality (550-650), performance (650-750), and premium (750-900), with premium down being the lightest, warmest, and most expensive.

Uses Less Water & Energy

Free-Range Birds

Muscovy down is a byproduct of the food industry, but unlike battery-farmed ducks, Muscovy birds are ethically-raised in open, free-range environments with access to water.

Mature Ducks = Mature Down

Muscovy ducks are raised for 90-100 days, far longer than typical ducks (raised for just 40 days). This longer lifespan means the birds are able to mature, resulting in higher-quality down clusters that are larger, more stable, and more resilient.

Bigger Plumes

The more mature the duck, the bigger the plume! Due to the longer breeding period of Muscovy ducks, they produce plumes that are as large or larger than those of geese.
Stable Clusters

Muscovy down has an inherent "clinginess" comparable to Eider duck down, meaning each plume has the tendency to "grab on" to another, which creates more stability within each baffle and reduces shifting.
Faster Compression Recovery

Muscovy down clusters are exceptionally resilient, meaning they "spring back" quickly for greater loft capabilities and faster compression recovery.
